Mohammad Abdeljawad, of North Bergen, was being held by a group of people when officers arrived to the Terrace Avenue hotel in Hasbrouck Heights on Sunday, Sept. 29, Lt. John Behr said.
Witnesses filmed from a high level at the hotel as Abdeljawad cut a hole into the trunk cover of a victim's vehicle in the parking lot and began loading stolen items into his 2024 BMW 3 series, Behr said.
Citizens held Abdeljawad until police arrived, Behr said.
Abdeljawad was lodged in the Bergen County Jail and charged with burglary, criminal mischief, theft of moveable property, and possession of burglary tools.
